Great views and seafood chowder!

We had a lovely time during our stay. The seafood chowder was out of this world, super creamy with tons of fish. The outdoor seating by the water was perfect for relaxing with a drink. Only hiccup was the service, it could be hit or miss, a bit slow at times. Still, the food made it worth it!

The breakfast was a real treat with eggs & bacon and top-notch coffee, while the spacious room overlooked the beautiful water—a total win! And that fantastic shower? Just what we needed after a day of exploring!

While the venue is lovely, we found the restaurant a bit lacking. The old-school menu felt stagnant, and we had to venture out for dinner when we were hoping for more on-site options—just a tad disappointing.

The king room with a balcony was spacious and comfortable, offering beautiful views through the Pohutakawa trees. Meals in the hotel restaurant were enjoyable, despite the lack of stunning sunsets due to weather. The staff provided exceptional service, going above and beyond to assist us when we needed a ride. In terms of minor drawbacks, the weather impacted our overall experience, but the hotel’s atmosphere and history more than made up for it. We look forward to returning for another visit.

the duke of marlborough has an unbeatable location right on the waterfront. we loved sitting by our balcony, watching the boats and people stroll by. the staff were super friendly and attentive. we tried a delicious four-cheese platter at a waterfront table, and it was just perfect!
